KITAS serves as a residency permit, allowing foreigners to stay legally in the country. In this article, we’ll explore the various KITAS types available in Indonesia, outlining their specific characteristics and requirements.

As per Indonesian Immigration Law No. 6 of 2011, several KITAS types cater to different needs:

Employment KITAS:

This type is for foreign nationals who have secured jobs in Indonesia. It permits them to legally reside and work in the country. Applicants need sponsorship from an Indonesian employer and other required documents like an employment contract.

Entertainment KITAS:

Also known as artist or freelancer KITAS, it’s a work permit for six months, not requiring a company to apply.

Investor KITAS:

Issued to those investing in a PMA company in Indonesia, it allows investors to work as General Directors or Commissars. Applicants must meet investment requirements, provide a business plan, and secure approvals from relevant authorities.

Student KITAS:

For international students enrolled in Indonesian educational institutions, allowing them to study and stay in the country. Applicants need proof of enrollment and financial support documents.

Retirement KITAS:

For foreigners aged 55 and above who wish to retire in Indonesia. It offers long-term residency for retirees meeting financial criteria and providing retirement plan statements and health insurance coverage.

Family KITAS:

Issued to spouses of Indonesian citizens or foreigners with Work or Investor KITAS. It allows spouses to reside legally in Indonesia and engage in business activities if desired. Applicants must provide marriage documentation and proof of financial stability.

In summary, understanding Indonesia’s various KITAS types is crucial for those planning a long-term stay. Whether it’s for work, joining a spouse, retirement, or education, there’s a specific KITAS to suit individual needs.
